- John Franks provides golf stats analysis for tour golfers and amateurs alike. In this article he explains how the process works. To help, he uses the actual stats from StrokeAverage.com client David Howell's runner-up finish in the Open de Portugal.
- Overview - First you need to enter your rounds onto StrokeAverage.com. You then compare them in sets of e.g. 15 (like your most recent 15 against the 15 before that) using a tree structure approach.
- Off the tee - Analyse each club and then compare them with other golfers of a similar or better playing standard. An be either long or accurate, Mr. Average just doesn't cut it.
- Approach play - With at least 30 shots entered for each club, analyse your long irons, mid irons, short irons and wedges in groups so that you can make simple conclusions like "I need to practice on my distance control with my wedges". Then search for golf equipment defects.
- Short game - Analyse how close you get your chip and bunker shots rather than how many you get up and down.
- Putting - Analyse your conversions from short-range inside 6 feet, mid-range 6 to 15 feet and long range outside 15 feet. This enables you to make simple conclusions like “I need to practice my holing out or lag putting”.
- Summary - At StrokeAverage.com we provide a written report for the golfer and their coaches including an analysis and summary of what to work on.
